“Next generation digital learning”

14.3.2022. 1. day report

At the beginning of the program, the headmaster greeted the partners as well as the coordinator of the Croatian team, followed by a welcome ceremony. The school choir performed a song in Croatian and English, the students of the special educational needs program performed the play Little Red Riding Hood, and the 4th grade students performed a dance act.

This was followed by a tour of the school. Participants in the project were conducted by 3 Croatian students. Students in almost all classes asked foreign partners where they come from, if they like Croatia and how to pronounce their names. The tour was followed by a formal part.

Official meetings were held in the library. At the beginning, the school headmaster presented the analysis of the teacher's questionnaire, and then the computer science teacher Ivana Primorac presented the analysis of the student's questionnaire.

After the analysis, we conducted a discussion in which teachers from Tahiti said that their students have limited internet access or no internet at all. They taught distance learning in a way that they copied the necessary materials and carried it from student to student to their homes. Classes were also held on TV, and they used the Pronot platform to post materials.

Teachers in Portugal as well as teachers in Croatia have a different experience with distance learning. Portuguese students received laptops, and Croatian students got tablets from the state, so they could follow distance learning without hindrance. They also had no problems with the internet, most students have high speed internet. Teachers in Portugal, as well as teachers in Croatia, have concluded that teaching without teachers in the classroom is not good and that online teaching is only a necessity. In online teaching teachers need to be more prepared, and students just do what is necessary so that the results of online teaching were not as expected.

Turkish students had classes on TV, they also had poor conditions while holding online classes. Their students also did not have the conditions to work remotely. The biggest problem was with students who have a lot of siblings, so they did not have the conditions for live teaching to attend at home in peace. Out of 1,000 students only 100 received tablets - the poorest students.

After the first meeting we went on a tour of the city where we saw the main sights, park, church and fort.

In the afternoon, we held the second part of the official meeting where the Croatian, French and Turkish teams presented some web tools used in teaching of English, Music and Science.

The Croatian team presented the web tool Toontastic and how it can be used in English language teaching.

The French team presented how they use Padlet, Quizlez and mind maps in teaching.

The Turkish team presented how they use various web tools such as Quizlet, Wordwall, Chegg and Kahoot in Music teaching. In the end of their presentation, all project participants played one Kahoot quiz and had a good time.

Portuguese team presented the use of the web tool EdPuzzle in computer science teaching, but also in all other subjects.
